Is AI Paint available now?
Yes! AI Paint is already available on the Mac App Store. We’re working on an app update to add support for newer AI image models. Those additions are not yet part of the current App Store release.
What’s new in AI Paint 1.1.0?
Newer GPT Image models and selections that guide AI edits. Two betas: Vector turns a description into a logo or icon made of editable shapes, gradients and text, and Compose builds a whole layered layout from one prompt. Layer masks and effects such as outlines, glows, inner shadows and feathered edges. Layers that play their elements as an animation, with GIFs opening as editable frames and exporting as animated GIFs. Rulers, guides, a grid and a crop tool. PNG, JPEG, HEIC and other images open directly as new documents. Plus a one-time Own API Key unlock and optional Apple, Google or email logins. None of this is part of the current App Store release yet.
Can I use it without AI?
Absolutely. Draw, add shapes and text, arrange layers, and export your work. The drawing tools are free to use.
How do AI credits work?
AI image generation and editing use credits. Choose a credit pack in the app when you need one. The credit cost depends on your selected model and settings, and is shown before you generate.
Do I need an API key?
No. The built-in AI features use credits, with no personal API key to set up. The upcoming AI Paint 1.1.0 update adds a one-time Own API Key unlock for using your own OpenAI key instead, and lets you connect Apple, Google or email voluntarily.
What Mac do I need?
AI Paint runs on macOS 14.4 or later. Download it directly from the Mac App Store.
